Computer ForensicsComputer forensics is the analysis of data processing equipment (i.e. home computer, laptop, server or office workstation) to discover illegal, unauthorized or unusual activities. Computer forensics can also include monitoring a network for the same purposes. A computer may be a crime scene, and it needs to be treated as such. The proper shutdown and collection of electronic evidence is critical to criminal and corporate internal investigations as well as civil litigation. Even the best evidence can be easily voided if the investigator did not follow proper forensic procedure. Our certified computer forensic examiners take the necessary measures to prevent malicious acts that can result in disruption of evidence. If not handled appropriately, a computer can be “booby-trapped” to destroy valuable evidence. After properly securing evidence, we create an image of the hard disk, media, or original files. A digital fingerprint, or hash value, is a forensic means of authenticating an image as a genuine copy. We use specialized, court-approved forensic tools and software to search through deleted or hidden files to analyze the imaged data. Documentation and data will be returned in a variety of formats. When needed, we will provide expert witness court testimony. |
